This position is responsible to plan, organize and direct the operation of Thermal Energy Plant(s) in downtown Omaha. The incumbent will assist in providing uninterrupted customer service and plant operations in a safe and productive manner. This position holder is expected to be a demonstrated competent supervisor and qualified system operator that can provide leadership, direction and coordination of operational activities and maintenance needs for the plant and system.
The Operation Supervisor works under limited supervision of the Plant Manager in a team environment. The supervisor is responsible for operation of the plant safely within all applicable codes and regulations. This position provides first line supervision, direction and coordination of the operations team and has frequent contact with senior management and our business partners such as customers, vendors, and contractors. Works with the maintenance manager to prioritize maintenance team tasks. Performs other duties as assigned, including control room coverage on a regular basis.
_Safety:_ Leads team in implementation of all corporate/plant safety and environmental programs. Such as Lock Out Tag Out program, Spill Prevention and emergency response. This includes daily, weekly, monthly safety audits, environmental audits and reports, JSA reviews, near miss reporting and participation on the plant safety team.
_Scheduling:_ Responsible for scheduling team, works additional shifts to ensure staffing meets requirements to Omaha city codes, reviews and approves timesheets.
_Operations:_Evaluates operation of system and plant using data analysis, weekly rounds, and operational procedure compliance. Supervisor writes and holds team accountable to standard operating procedures, checklists, and job briefings. Responsible for the safe starts and stops of all equipment, troubleshoots plant issues and evaluates the effectiveness of all practices and procedures to continually improve the team s execution.
_Training:_ Develop and administer training programs to ensure employee skills meet company standards to operate and maintain the plant in a safe, regulatory compliant and efficient manner. Implement changes for maximum equipment performance and reliability.
_Reporting:_Responsible for accurate operational reporting to the plant manager such as log books, permit required periodic reporting, , and proper emergency response reports and others as assigned. Works with plant manager to establish communication of timely reporting and data retention for local, state and federal agencies.
_Project Planning_: Review and assist with the coordination of plant and system projects as assigned. This may include planning and execution of project management including contractor supervision and budget control. Present training of any operational change management related to projects.
_Other Duties:_ Does performance appraisals and fulfills applicable human resource functions such as hiring, performance assessment, and termination of assigned employees, and other tasks as directed by plant manager.
* High School diploma or equivalent
* Minimum of 7 years within an energy plant
* City of Omaha Operator 1 license or relevant 5 years boiler experience with ability to prove capability and intent to obtain such license within next available testing cycle after hire
* Experience working with Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition systems (SCADA) required. Demonstrated ability to develop operational limits and alarms within SCADA systems and interfacing with plant logic controls. Preferred experience would be in the development and management of processes system control.
* Thorough knowledge of energy plant operating principles, procedures and safe work practices required.
* Broad knowledge of steam, electrical and mechanical theory, principles of supervision, accounting and budgeting procedures, maintenance procedures, and planning techniques. Must be able to demonstrate ability to troubleshoot and evaluate system anomalies timely and make quick emergency operational decisions.
* Must have knowledge of applicable boiler and chiller -, government regulations and codes. Previous experience interacting with agency inspectors, meeting reporting standards related to permit and code requirements for city, state and federal agencies.
* Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of manufacturer s manuals, contracts, computer reports, and technical specifications and drawings.
* Ability to supervise, train and direct subordinates in an understandable, clear manner. Must have the ability to plan and coordinate projects, and communicate both orally and in writing. Demonstrated effective leadership for routine and emergency activities.
* Job requires enforcement of all safety, environmental, and human resource rules and regulations
* Experience working directly with contractors and vendors
* Must have a valid driver s license and record acceptable to company standards
* Ability to operate a personal computer proficiently and experience with standard suite of office programs.
_Additional Preferred Candidate Qualifications_
* Associates degree or certificates of formal education or training in related field
* BS or MS Degree in Engineering within a related discipline
* Supervisory experience of more than 5 years.
* Minimum of 2 years experience with chemical treatment systems and laboratory practices for chemical testing of water systems related to cooling towers, boilers, chilled water and supporting process equipment preferred.
_Working Conditions_:
Normally work within the control room setting in a thermal plant. Expectations to be able to work within a normal plant environment with stairs and ladders to access difficult spaces with an ability to work as an operator. Includes working at heights, high/low ambient temperatures, low light and high humidity areas within the plant. Working in confined space and able to withstand elevated temperatures or extreme cold.
As a working supervisor you may be required to work extended periods of time outside normal business hours including assisting emergency coverage for any of the 24/7 operator shifts. Occasional extended shifts and non-standard hours during critical issue resolution, outages and project deliverables is expected.
